MIMA’s Top 3 HoliDon’ts
The office Holiday party can be a tough one to navigate - even when you use the infographic from Adweek posted on our Facebook page as a guide. Now that you know how little (or how much) to drink, here are three other pitfalls to avoid:
1) Don’t bring out the heavy topics for conversation.
Although the setting is social, leave your personal issues at home, steer clear of the office gossip (no matter how juicy) and keep your humor appropriate. Think light and witty - like a MIMA blog post!
2) Don’t let your indiscretions find a home on the company server.
Even if you are the designated driver, you may feel the holiday spirit move you to let your hair down. And this may manifest itself into a karaoke version of Ms. Britney Spears’ “Slave 4 U”, which may have resulted in video evidence. Find that person, and make sure you witness them hitting the delete button. Not speaking of experience or anything....happened to a friend of mine....
3) Don’t skip the party.
And don’t be the person that doesn’t participate! If you already see your co-workers between 30 and a million hours a week, a few more won’t kill you. Try to have fun with any themes or games, like always popular “White Elephant”. Also, run that gift past a friend first to make sure it doesn’t have any unintentional inappropriate connotations. Again, totally retelling this secondhand from an unnamed source who told me the story for research
purposes...
Rule #3 is especially important if you were thinking about skipping the MIMA Holiday party. Stop it, just stop it right now. That is a horrible idea. You don’t want to miss a jolly good time with your fellow MIMAers (MIMAans? MIMAites?) in the stunning Minneapolis Institute of Arts. You still have time to register!
We hope you will regale the roving blog reporters with your favorite company party stories, and share your new MIMA party stories around the water cooler/
coffeepot/breakroom with your co-workers.
