Metropolitan State University is accepting applications for a tenure track, probationary position in Technical Communications at Assistant Professor level, to begin Fall semester in August of 2012.  The faculty member will teach undergraduate and graduate level courses, advise students, engage in a program of research relevant to technical communication, and contribute new curriculum to this innovative and growing program.

 

The Department of Communication, Writing, and the Arts, located in the College of Arts and Sciences, offers a BA in Technical Communication and Professional Writing, and an MS in Technical Communication.  Metropolitan State’s Technical Communication Program emphasizes new technologies, relevant theory, and practical, hands-on learning.  The program features a commitment to service learning, excellent computer and library resources, and an active relationship with Twin Cities' employers and practitioners. The Department of Communication, Writing, and the Arts provides a lively, interdisciplinary setting for teaching and research.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

 Ph.D. in technical or professional communication or a Ph.D. in a closely related discipline with a concentration in technical or professional communication, completed by October 21, 2011.

 Demonstrated effectiveness in university-level teaching.

 Demonstrated commitment to linking theoretical and practical learning.

 Demonstrated commitment to serving a culturally diverse student population.

  

Preferred Qualifications:

 Industry or other relevant, practical experience.

 Preparation and interest in at least two of the following areas: visual information design, social media and related technology, rhetorical theory, technical communication theory and research, social issues and communication technologies, publishing and editing, and interaction design.

Salary:  Salary is commensurate with education and experience, and is determined by the salary placement process as outlined in the Inter Faculty Organization (IFO) Master Agreement.Employment for this position is covered by the collective bargaining agreement for the Inter Faculty Organization which can be found at:  http://www.hr.mnscu.edu/contract_plans/documents/IFO_09_11_Contract.pdf
