Front-End Developer

 

Position Summary:

The Web Developer position has strong experience in user experience and UI and develops for the front-end code of Capella University. This includes developing optimized/cross-platform front-end code in CSS/XHTML, JavaScript, and AJAX. This individual reports to the Supervisor of Web Design, whose team has responsibility for interface design, front-end development, multimedia, company branding, usability, and ADA 508 compliance.  

Responsibilities:

·  Work closely with a designer and user experience analyst on bringing mockups or wireframes through development to final delivery. This includes graphics optimization and the use of HTML, CSS, JavaScript / jQuery, PHP, XML, SQL and Web Services.

·  Manage code integrity of the sites and other projects to ensure cohesive development amongst our team.

·  Work with product managers, user experience analysts, and designers to understand customer needs and business requirements and create functional prototypes to address those needs.

·  Follow the integration within the design/development team of industry trends with regard to front-end technologies and techniques.

·  Be involved in both the graphic and user experience design of interfaces for many of our web properties and mobile web properties.

·  Partner with business units (internal clients) to understand specific business goals, customer needs, and opportunities to improve business performance through the website.

·  Introduce innovative development processes and optimization to increase site productivity, traffic to specific/desired areas, positive user experiences and business results.

·  Ensure that material on the web site is accessible to all groups including those with disabilities and design and develop site for search engine optimization.

·  Develop and maintain the production, graphical, and compression standards for the highest possible quality, navigational ease, consistency in look and feel, and content architecture of Capella’s websites.

·  Communicate status and risks to project leaders and business partners.

·  Collaborate with usability team to test and refine designs.

 

Qualifications

·  Bachelor's degree in design, computer science, or related field.

·  3 or more years of web development experience from site concept to launch, with a proven track record of meeting deadlines.

·  Advanced knowledge of front-end web standards technologies (HTML, CSS, Javascript) preferred. 

·  Some working knowledge of PHP and SQL

·  Experience in design software (Photoshop, Illustrator) required. 

·  Ability to translate business needs into creative web-based solutions and to deliver business goals and project objectives with limited supervision.

·  Strong understanding of all aspects of web development, including strategy, design, usability, and implementation.

·  Strong knowledge of web usability and interface design principles; advanced knowledge of site navigation and information architecture, browser limitations and solutions for cross platform usability; ability to define, concept and create use-cases, site-maps and wire-frames of site schematics.

·  Experience with mobile web sites or native mobile platforms preferred.

·  Experience with design for personalization and content management templates.

·  Strong understanding of version-control systems. Able to work well in collaborative development environment handing off packets of code to back-end developers.

·  Some experience with agile development process.

·  Some knowledge of SVN, GitHub or equivalent version control system or willing to learn.

·  Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills which foster and develop business partner relationships.

·  Strong prioritization and interpersonal skills to balance multiple demands. Ability to grasp new concepts quickly and an extreme attention to detail.
