Job Summary

The Lead Developer is responsible for leading the technical design, laying out the technical work plan, estimating effort and delivering a quality system in both development and production.  The scope of work includes enhancements to existing sites / applications, technical design and development of new sites and the desire and ability to proactively identify ways to improve performance and introduce 3rd party and custom-developed tools to enhance our interactive offerings to Life Time Fitness members.

 

This role will guide the development team through all phases of the project lifecycle and produce required deliverables personally and through leading and motivating the technical team.  Order-takers need not apply.

 

 

Essential Functions and traits

·         Understand and communicate technical and functional design requirements to development team

·         Experience with the ongoing operation, maintenance and evolution of a large consumer-facing site

·         Design, code, and test technical solutions, including unit testing

·         Understand and guide the evolution of the system’s architecture

·         Performance of code reviews

·         Understand the necessity of, have experience with and lead establishment of coding standards

·         Understand project expectations as communicated by the Interactive Director and estimate development effort to deliver

·         Recognize and effectively communicate risks to project timelines and quality

·         Identify system deficiencies and recommend solutions

·         Delegate to and mentor the project team

·         Proactively work with Interactive Business Analysts, Creative, User Experience and Quality Assurance Analyst to define project requirements

·         Participates in resource planning & scheduling for the team and developer interview process

·         Motivating team members

 

Technical Skills:

·         Strong background in web development

·         Proficient in Day/Adobe CQ development a plus (not required)

·         Strong working knowledge of Java and databases including MySQL

·         Understanding of design patterns

·         Proficient with HTML/CSS

·         Proficient with JavaScript

 

Education, Experience and Other Skills

·         Minimum of 5 years experience in Software Engineering with at least 2 years leading a technical team

·         Minimum of 2 years working on a large consumer-facing internet property

·         Experience with enterprise-level CMS implementation (experience with Adobe CQ5 optimal but not required)

·         Demonstrated experience with internet analytics and user personalization

·         Demonstrated proficiency in multiple programming languages

·         Demonstrated proficiency in front/middle/backend technologies

·         Possess specialized knowledge in at least two tiers of development

·         Understand hosting architectures

·         Promote active listening with team members and contribute appropriately to conversations
