Summary of the job:
The goal of the Social Media specialist is to develop and execute successful social media strategies that support the overall business goals and priorities of the agency and agency clients. They work closely with account teams and clients to provide strategic social engagement counsel, develop effective social engagement plans, execute those plans and evaluate the results of that outreach.  
 
Essential functions/principal accountabilities of the job
 
Important areas of responsibility include but are not limited to:
- Meets with account teams to determine clients’ objectives, goals and success measures
- Oversees research to help determine social media plans and approaches  
- Delegates research and planning assignments to fellow team members, as appropriate
- Researches new social media platforms, tools, products (including vendor offerings)
- Offers a strategic POV on current trends, issues and news in the social media landscape
- Understands clients’ business objectives, products, services and methods of operation; has a working knowledge of the clients’ industry categories, trends and issues
- Participates in and/or directs brainstorms to develop strategic, original/ unexpected ideas
- Develops comprehensive, strategic plans meeting client objectives, timing and budgets  
 
Financial management
- Monitors individual work against budgets; apprises team leaders of anticipated overage
- Revises budgets/timelines if client/team request is outside agreed-upon scope of work
 
Project management
- Provides ongoing counsel regarding social engagement communications and marketing issues
- Works with brand planning team to develop/analyze research pertaining to target audience’s use of digital and social media
- Manages client expectations; communicates timelines, estimates, plan revisions
- Regularly communicates with teams about program progress, status, adjustments, etc.
- Conducts and participates in social media outreach, including target list development, crafting outgoing communications materials and developing strong blogger relationships
 
Evaluation
- Plans for evaluation up front, including measurement tools, parameters and budgeting  
- Manages project evaluation process
- Conducts post-project debrief meetings with team and client, as appropriate
- Stays abreast of best practices, issues and trends in social media measurement
 
Business development:
- Responsible for growing current accounts
- Drafts portions of new business proposals; participates in brainstorms and presentations
- Identifies prospective new business targets; works with director of new business to determine best ways to approach targets
- Works with new business team in prospect meetings to determine needs, resources, etc.
