The Vice President for Marketing serves as the university’s chief marketing officer. The Vice President will supervise the areas of marketing, enrollment management, communications, media relations, and brand experience. The Vice President will ensure the university achieves its annual enrollment objectives, advances a comprehensive, integrated marketing program, and implements a communications strategy for external and internal audiences consistent with university goals and needs. The position, reporting to the President of the university, will serve as a member of the President’s staff and University Leadership Team. The Vice President is the chief advisor to the President on external relations responsibilities, serving in supporting activities that promote and advance the university. The Vice President will provide leadership for the marketing of undergraduate, graduate, law and professional programs and internal and external communications and relationships.
Marketing
Lead brand development and implementation of a comprehensive, integrated annual marketing plan for the university to drive enhanced institutional reputation, and growth in awareness for key constituencies, including prospective students, alumni, and the public. Manage the university’s institutional identity efforts and ongoing evaluation of the effectiveness of marketing efforts. Ensure a web and media presence that serves the institutional identity, as well as enrollment and development objectives of the university.
Enrollment
Ensure that the enrollment goals of the university for its undergraduate, graduate, and professional programs are achieved. Work closely with enrollment personnel to develop and implement a comprehensive recruitment, admission, and financial aid strategy that will enhance the academic profile of the university while meeting annual revenue expectations. Serve as a resource to deans of the college and schools to promote academic programs, alumni relations, and development.
Communications
Oversee the university’s internal and external communications function. Lead the organization in identifying and articulating messages that most effectively advance the mission of the university. Lead implementation of initiatives that build university and community connection through media relations, public relations, social media, events, internal and external communications, and special initiatives. Serve as liaison on government issues affecting the university and oversee government relations function.
Minimal Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from accredited institution of higher learning in communications, marketing, public relations, journalism or related field, and at least ten years of work experience in such fields, including management experience
Excellent and demonstrated verbal and written communication skills and strategic and conceptual thinking skills
Substantial experience in positioning and branding to strengthen identity and awareness
Significant experience in leading quantifiable marketing efforts
Knowledge in market planning, execution, and evaluation for enrollment purposes
Demonstrated leadership of communications and public relations functions
Experience in budget development and management
Commitment to supporting and increasing diversity in the university setting
Demonstrated exceptional ability to work collaboratively within a team of professional faculty and staff
Preferred Qualifications
Masters’ degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning
Experience in successfully providing marketing leadership in a Fortune 500 company or a major non-profit organization or leading enrollment and recruitment functions at a college or university
Senior level experience with issues related to higher education and enrollment, marketing, and public relations
Experience leading areas of marketing, communications, brand strategy, and public relations in higher education
