PURPOSE
To manage, direct, and make extensive creative contributions to the internal and external development of creative, innovative, and academic video, still images and other multimedia resources for use by individuals, the Church, congregations and their members in a variety of settings, including worship, faith formation, small groups, and personal devotions. Duties include: conceptualizing video direction, critiquing and revising scripts, managing pre-production, line, and post-production, directing video shoots or animations, editing, compositing/visual effects, mastering, publishing in various formats.
KEY RESULT AREAS
Producer - Organizes, oversees, directs, and manages all aspects of the production process on a given project(s) from concept development to the submission of the final approved product. In short the Producer is the one who knows who needs to be where and when, and what they need to be doing.
Duties Include:
· Works in a variety of roles on multiple projects simultaneously at various stages of production in a fast paced environment.
· Assures that all technical and creative staffing needs are met for each video project. Works closely with the Production Manager to recruit, hire, schedule, and monitor the workloads of all members of the production team.
· Supervises a video production team and coordinates with cross-functional project teams, including relationships with outside vendors.
· Acts as Associate Director on assigned projects, making decisions on interpretation of script, casting and direction of actors, set design, sound, lighting, special effects, choreography, cinematography, editing, etc….
· Leads video production teams in detailing, managing, and carrying out video shoots: managing a shooting schedule, hiring casts, organizing and transporting lighting, audio, and camera equipment, scouting locations, setup, camera operation, etc…
· Creates and manages an overall production process and schedule specifically tailored to the needs of each new project in consultation with project team members.
· Oversees the work of support staff and ensures program scripts meet intentions and requirements expressed by management.
· Work to expand the video department’s network and build relationships with local talented and affordable video production vendors and actors.
· Participates in customer-focused strategic planning for visual media resources, seeking innovative ways to meet the multimedia needs of Augsburg Fortress customers.
· Makes final creative decisions on all aspects of a given project based on their collaboration with the Creative and Technical Directors, the production team and their interpretation of the script and/or treatment.
· Works with project team to develop visually creative, theologically sound visuals, and acts as a bridge between development and production for these products.
· Will, as needed, act as Post-Production Manager of a given project- Responsible for overseeing the post production process from offline to online, including but not limited to, final video lock, audio mixing, compositing/visual effects, color correction, mastering, and exporting the product suitable for broadcast or publishing.
· Has experience with the latest post-production technology including software and hardware to ensure the maximum output with the minimum expense.
· Will handle, as needed, all the hands-on aspects of video production including (but not limited to) lighting, set construction, sound, camera operation, video logging, editing, and mastering.
· Capture and edit a variety of footage: interviews, events, short films, concept video loops, live skits, person on the street comments, theme illustrations, panel discussions, tutorials, music videos, and documentaries.
· Work with Final Cut Studio and other post-production software to perform video editing of the highest quality: capturing multiple types of video footage, performing basic edits, creating soundtracks, applying visual effects, exporting to a variety of publishing mediums, and leading and improving video editing workflows and practices.
· Stay ahead of the field in terms of technical knowledge of the video industry, equipment, best practices, and workflows. Assist in training Augsburg Fortress staff in understanding and using video.
RELATIONSHIPS
· Reports to: Senior Video Producer
· Takes work direction from the Senior Video Producer and collaborates with the entire SHED Video team.
· Internal relationships with Design and Production, Managing Editorial, Permissions Rights & Records, Publishing Groups, IS, and Purchasing.
· External relationships with freelance videographers, production companies, and customers.
JOB SPECIFICATION
1. Commitment to Augsburg Fortress Publishers Mission, Vision, and Values.
2. Desired education and experience:
· College major coursework in videography and/or 2-4 years experience producing visual media.
· A comprehensive demo reel of your video work, illustrating your expertise in production and
post-production practices and outcomes.
3. Desired knowledge, skills, and abilities:
· An artistic vision; the ability to think creatively and tell a good story visually.
· Expertise in Sony and Panasonic HD video workflows and Final Cut Studio.
· Adobe After Effects and/or other post-production expertise a plus.
· Expertise in the use and maintenance of cameras, lighting, and audio equipment.
· Knowledge of video formats, codec, and digital capture tools.
· Ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment and work with guidelines: team members, budgets, timelines, etc.
· Knowledge of ELCA and Lutheran heritage, organizational structures, and mission helpful.
· Familiarity with other mainline Christian organizations also helpful.
