Position Summary:
The Web Design Supervisor leads a team of designers and front-end web developers in the creation of Capella’s sites and online tools including web-based applications, mobile sites, email marketing, advertising, and more. The Supervisor project manages site design and development, and leads continuous improvement efforts to insure quality, brand identity, and accessibility standards are met, best practices are followed, and processes gain efficiency while the prospective learner, learner and faculty experience improves.
Responsibilities:
· Manage a team of varied positions (web designers, web developers, app developers, and project managers).
· Work closely with Marketing, IT, and other regular partners to understand specific business goals, customer needs and opportunities to improve business performance.
· Partner closely with fellow supervisors and groups, especially those in user experience analysis and web production to create best practices in processes and project management methodology.
· Develop and maintain graphical and visual design standards; help to determine look and feel of all of Capella’s sites and online tools.
· Implement and lead web design best practices including style guides and visual standards; establish naming conventions, development optimization, and compression standards for graphics and multimedia components and html coding.
· Monitor graphic consistency of web sites and tools.
· Provide coaching and leadership to direct reports and manage day-to-day employee issues. Provide mentorship to all designers on Web Design team.
· Complete annual reviews and create development plans.
· Provide resource planning for client needs.
· Accurately forecast and update budget throughout year. Work with partners on planning in estimating resources and dollars for annual budgets.
· Perform annual performance reviews for direct reports and assist staff in creation of development plans.
· Develop, in collaboration with various IT and OPUX teams, the strategies for Capella University's OPUX initiative, including the evaluation of vendors and systems, the development of clear workflows, and the operational planning for implementing these strategies in the current course development process.
· Introduce innovative design principles and effectively leverage technology to deliver on company goals.
· Complete analysis and requirements for projects.
· Ensure that are products are accessible to all groups including those with disabilities.
Requirements
· Bachelor's degree required in design, project management, hci, communications, business, web development or related field.
· 2 or more years of experience as a project manager or people manager. Preference is for experience in a web design arena bringing a site concept to launch, with a proven track record of meeting deadlines.
· Strong understanding of user-centered design and usability.
· Strong design/creative talent and excellent understanding of design principles and theory.
· Ability to translate business needs into creative web-based solutions and provide a variety of user interfaces.
· Strong understanding of all aspects of web development, including strategy, design, usability, and implementation.
· Knowledge of Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Must know how to use these tools and others in the best manner to guide team members.
· Advanced knowledge of web usability and interface design principles; advanced knowledge of site navigation and information architecture, browser limitations and solutions for cross platform usability; ability to define, concept and create use-cases, site-maps and wire-frames of site schematics.
· Demonstrated project leadership and ability to delegate and mentor others with constructive feedback.
· Extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
· Strong prioritization and interpersonal skills to balance multiple demands.
· Ability to grasp new concepts quickly, an extreme attention to detail, strong communication and presentation skills.
· Knowledge of video production and web delivery a plus.
· Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.
· A customer-focused perspective with the ability to integrate information from multiple sources, identify resources for projects, and determine appropriate strategies to meet organizational needs.
