DETAILS:

Unfortunately, Colleen DeCourcy had to cancel her appearance (that's okay, it happens). So, why not join us on Monday, May 10 for the final installment of the 2010 edition of Conversations About The Future Of Advertising (CATFOA) as we welcome Robert Stephens (@rstephens), Founder and Chief Inspector for Geek Squad and Dan Beranek (@dantronic), Social Media Channel Planning Manager for Target. Sponsored by the Minneapolis College of Art and Design and the Minnesota Interactive Marketing Association.

Tim Brunelle will host a discussion with Robert and Dan as they share their thoughts on some of the more compelling issues facing marketers today:

  • Controlling the Brand Story - How do we as brand marketers enable and assist customers who have a story to share?
  • Employees as Marketers - Social media tools like LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook have essentially made every employee a marketer. Strength in numbers is a good thing, right?
  • Transparency - How do we balance legal and policy issues in an ever-changing marketing environment? How do we council brand owners when by social medias very nature, they have less control over their brands?
  • Location & Mobility - What tactics and tools are brands using successfully to connect with customers at a local and personal level?
And, whatever else might come to mind...including questions from our esteemed audience. It will be a great evening and we hope you can join.

Robert Stephens: Founder and Chief Inspector for Geek Squad.  His goal for the Geek Squad is to achieve complete world domination as the technology services brand.  He has been with Best Buy’s Geek Squad for 16 years.

Dan Beranek: For 10 years, Dan has been learning and re-learning that what makes interactive experiences work to make users happy.  He started learning how to sell dial-up Internet connections from visionaries who who were building online communities before AOL, and auction services before eBay.  Since then, he's been focused squarely on learning how to define business objectives that result in pleasing user-experiences.  Dan's architectural experiences includes Web sites, ad campaigns, mobile experiences and social conversation frameworks, but mostly he focus on aligning business objectives with appropriate emerging technologies.  Dan has worked with clients like Unilever, Steelcase, FedEx, Syngenta, Mayo Clinic, M&M Mars, NASCAR, and for the last four years, client-side at Target.  Dan has been lucky enough to work with some of the biggest, best and flashiest agencies in the world, and he still thinks helping brands understand how to deliver real value to their customers - no just more ads - is sexy.
